The Durham Strategic Energy Alliance (DSEA) is a non-profit organization comprised of business, government and educational institutions working together for the advancement of energy initiatives.
The DSEA is addressing the energy challenges facing Ontario and Canada by being an active participant in the global quest for clean, affordable energy solutions.
For more than 40 years, Durham Region has been home to a wealth of energy-sector expertise and infrastructure, combined with progressive government and knowledgeable and supportive host community.
Research and development capabilities are led by the University of Ontario Institute of Technology’s (UOIT) energy systems and nuclear engineering programs- the only ones of their kind in Canada- while Durham College is a training leader for the skilled trades.
Governing councils of the Municipality of Clarington and the Region of Durham have a fully endorsed Ontario Power Generation Darlington as a site for new build nuclear. Already, Durham Region is Ontario’s Energy Capital, producing more than 30 per cent of the province’s electricity supply led by Ontario Power Generation’s Darlington Nuclear and Pickering Nuclear.
In many of Durham’s member municipalities, lands have been set aside for energy and conservation-related development as part of Durham’s efforts to create an energy-sector hub for Ontario that is becoming a model and leader for Canada and the world.
